Active Culture Frozen Yogurt Partners with the Oregon Food Bank to
“Lick Hunger” in Portland with “Cans for Cones”
When SE Portland’s Active Culture Frozen Yogurt owners Dan Fox and Megan Ostrem brainstormed ways to celebrate National Frozen Yogurt Month in June, they planned a way for the whole community to get excited about yogurt…and about helping each other.
From June 1st-June 4th, Active Culture is asking the community to “Lick Hunger in Portland” by donating two cans of food at their “Cans for Cones” food drive in exchange for a free yogurt cone. All food collected will benefit Oregon Food Bank.
“We love yogurt, and we love Portland. What better way to spread our love for our little shop in the city than to give away a healthy treat AND help fight hunger in our neighborhoods?” said Fox.
“Cans for Cones” is the major highlight of the week but the festivities don’t stop there. A photo contest, raffles for prizes, and a kid’s coloring contest are some of the other activities planned to celebrate Active Culture Frozen Yogurt and National Frozen Yogurt Month. Active Culture rotates their flavors each week and plans to stock the most popular flavors for the “Cans for Cones” event. With their enticing cool treats, Fox and Ostrem hope to connect with as many people as possible during the week’s events.
“The name ‘Active Culture’ really reflects two very important aspects of our business,” said Ostrem. “We love promoting the live and active cultures in our yogurt and more importantly, the active cultural lifestyle that we as Portlanders hope to promote in our favorite city. Just by meeting the amazing customers who come by our shop every day, we have been really inspired us to give back to our neighbors.”
Fox adds, “These are hard times for small businesses. But by working together and celebrating the small things in life, a small business can be the perfect opportunity to meet new people and support each other. Support comes by donating food to the hungry, and it also comes by frequenting local shops like ours.”
Portlanders are encouraged to show their support by helping “Lick Hunger” and donate two cans of food in exchange for a free yogurt cone Monday June 1st through Thursday June 4th at Active Culture Frozen Yogurt, located on SE 8th and Morrison in the Grand Central Building. All proceeds benefit Oregon Food Bank. The shop is open from 11am to 10:30pm Monday-Saturday and 12pm to 9:30pm Sunday.
