At 7:30 this morning Mayor Sam Adams addressed a gathering of about 45 local residents and business at a gathering of the North Portland Business Association at Christie's resturant on Lombard Street. According to NPBA President Jim Schaller, the mayor spoke for approximately 20 minutes, answered six questions for another 10 minutes and then said he had to leave.
Schaller stated that the mayor made no commitment to whether or not he would choose to keep open North and Southeast Precincts. This month the Portland Police Bureau budget that would close two police precincts landed on the mayor's desk. In May, Adams will submit his own draft budget which may or may not include the precinct closures recommended by Police Chief Rosie Sizer. "[Adams] said, 'I'm not going to beat around the bush. I can't guarentee you we won't close the Precinct. The city has no money. My hands are tied,'" said Schaller of the mayor's remarks.
Adams said he would try to arrange another public budget forum to be held in St. Johns later in April.

I would like to know what is going to become of the St. Johns Heritage Society once the North Precinct closes. It is my understanding that once the building is reorganized to the PPB Training Division, they will no longer be able to accommodate the St. Johns Heritage
