Tiny House Needs a Home

We are currently building a tiny house on a 20 foot trailer and are looking for a place to call home in Portland.

We are a couple in our late twenties (blackjack dealer/baker and a school teacher) with a friendly 34 pound dog. The house is an attempt to simplify our lives and will allow us to focus on important things besides our finances.

The house is 139.5 square feet and comes complete with a kitchen, living area, sleeping loft, 32 inch…

Thrift

I'm male. Males, on the whole, do not care to browse. The word 'browse' was invented by women, crafted to rhyme with other words like 'carouse', 'arouse' 'chows' in a psychological gambit to lead their men to believe that there are fun times ahead. We're onto this now, though. We know that 'browse' is just another word for 'shop', which coincidentally rhymes with 'chop', 'crop', 'flop', and perhaps one or two others that suggest curtailment, flaccidity, and a cessation of…

Sanctuaries

I'm about to use a word that strikes most people with either fear or elation, or at least a sudden urge to leave the room. Even elated persons might find their momentary joy deflate into dread, because this word, though ubiquitous in its usage, is a powerful one, and often hearing it out of another's mouth may cause some awful wrothful (say it three times fast!) consternation when it's not uttered just so, even when those hearing it use the word quite frequently.

Here it is:…

OREGON RAIN DOWN ON ME

When the rainy season of Spring and early Summer comes to the Pacific Northwest, we begin to forget how much that rain means to us, until the trees begin to blossom and grow their leaves, our flowers come out of their Winter dormancy and the bustle of people returns. We live for our short Summers here, realizing the rain is necessary for us to be so beautifully green. You will hear an Oregonian state that they love the rain, with an honest fervor we Oregonians will…

It's time for Mardi Gras in Portland!

I'm working with a great team of New Orleans ex-pats who've transformed themselves into the Mysti Krewe of Nimbus . In New Orleans, a krewe is mearly an organization that puts together a float, parade or celebration ball for the Mardi Gras season. There are a gazillion Krewes, some very old and revered, some new and piecemeal!

The Oregon BETC is under investigation. Mayor Adams is facing a second recall attempt. PGE wants to raise electrical rates by 7.4%. Jobs are down and taxes are up.
