Going Down In Hipstery

I was talking to the missus the other day about nostalgia stuff, probably inspired by some television show we were watching, or an ad during a commercial break; these days the thing that gets under her skin the most is when I ask her not to fast-forward through a commercial because I want to see what the ad is about, and pointing out that the actor/spokesperson in the ad is also in this other ad only she was wearing glasses in the other one and she might not have recognized her.  Yes, okay,…

Portland Blog: This Week in Portland November 24 - December 1

What?! Last week of November already? You MUST be kidding! I was hardly prepared for Thanksgiving and to discover we are one step closer to Christmas has the old mind boggled. At least the weather yesterday was divine (and yes...the weather today was appropriately horrifying to make up for the sunny Thanksgiving treat, I know).

So what do we have for you this week? Jump on into our latest…

'Tis the season, when many of our fellow Americans celebrate the fact that they actually have expendable funds by standing in long lines for hours and hours, DAYS even, so that they may indulge in the privilege of blowing the whole lot on stuff for themselves and friends and family, who in all likelihood don't really need said stuff.…

Four More

I feel I should preface this entry by saying that I'm an unabashed Obama supporter.  There may be some few of you reading this who supported the opposition and may take umbrage at this post, thinking that I'm crowing in victory and thumbing my nose at you.  There's no way you can prove that.  I even closed my blinds and stuck some electrical tape over my display's camera.  So you'll have to take my word for it.…

PDX Noir

The tendrils of fog are trying to embrace the night like a circus midget trying to climb the bearded lady.  The brim of my fedora is a muffled snare drum for the pattering rain.  It's after dark in Portland, Oregon, and I'm wandering the streets breathing in the damp, dark air of a city that wears this weather like a cloak bought at a second-hand shop on Hawthorne that received it from an SCA member down on his luck.  My shoes create eddies and tides on the…
