We've decided to start a series of featured write-ups focusing on Portland businesses, to give props to our local independently run businesses that are a part of what makes Portland so unique, and so great! If you have a Portland business you would like to see featured, contact us.

Portland Concordia Neighborhood - Photo Walking Tour - Photos of Concordia Portland

I visited our Portland Concordia neighborhood yesterday, and met a couple of new businesses and wonderful Portlanders who own or work in them (I will post more about those later today). Concordia is in North/NE Portland and is a perfect example of one of our great Portland communities--full of independent business, quirky shops, great little restaurants, coffee shops and bars, and loads of creativity and positive energy put forth by the business owners and people who live here. As a part of the… Continue

Day of the Dead Celebration Oct. 29th - Nov. 20th

Onda Gallery and Gaurdino Gallery are hosting their annual Dias de los Muertos celebration with an art opening and procession on October 29th from 6 pm - 9 pm.

Vince and I are honored to participate in both events. We are installing the altar "Doy Gracias" or "I give thanks" to anchor one corner of the gallery at Onda, and the Mexican Consulate is building an incredible altar to anchor the other corner. There will be performers singing traditional songs, reciting poetry, including… Continue

This Week in Portland - October 24 to October 31, 2009

Hello, Portland, and hello rain...it's b-a-a-c-k. Yesterday I was driving downtown and wet leaves were falling from the trees and onto my windshield. Ugh...there still might be some leaves left for a couple last chances of photos of the autumn leaves changing, but we are running out of time this season. Today's weather forecast is partly cloudy so this might be a good day to get outside!

I don't know about you, but I am in the mood for fall. The cool air has me already lighting a… Continue

The Pearl District, Portland Oregon - Photo Walking Tour - Pearl District Photos

I took a stroll through the Pearl District this morning, on my way to meet a friend for a cup of coffee at Barista. I beat the rain and snapped some lovely images of the Pearl as the leaves are beginning to change and the colors really pop! I love the tiny little enclaves of nature in the city with the flower pot gardens spilling color forth, and of course the red bricks, green patches of lawn, and blue sky reflected back in the windows of the lofts and… Continue

Portland Blog: This Week in Portland October 17- October 24

These days are fast and few-- Portland in the fall, that is. We've had incredible weather these last several weeks- dry and sunny for the most part- and I feel thankful for it. Walking the dogs in nice dry weather is about to end and I am savoring every last non-muddy-paw step of the way.

The leaves are turning and they are spectacular. I am itching to get out there with my Nikon D40 this weekend, rain or shine! This is also a reminder that we are half way through October and that… Continue

Portland Blog: This Week in Portland October 3 - October 10

Happy weekend, Portland-- and welcome to FALL. I was in denial for as long as I could be and finally, probably just today, have accepted it. It's here alright. The fall chill has descended, I wore gloves walking the dogs a few mornings ago, the heat has been turned back on for the first time in nearly 4 months and the leaves are starting to turn. Oh and of course, its raining more and more...not quite the constant drizzle we will expect to see in the winter months (I always say Portland winter… Continue
