Diving right in

I stopped by one of my favorite dive shops on Friday—Underwater Works in Tigard—and ordered a new dive computer. I plan to do lots of Baja Sur diving in December and wanted to check out warmer dive suits, too. My shortie is perfect for Caribbean waters, but Sea of Cortez diving can get a little cool.

My task in December will be to dive several locations, including the Land's End Cabo San Lucas area, East Cape and… Continue

Thunder & Lightning

When I woke this morning to my house vibrating from thunder, I almost cried with happiness. The cracks, booms, and shakes, followed by a downpour, was enough to push me over the edge into euphoria.

It's not just that there was a magnificent thunderstorm happening on a Monday morning at 8am, but that I got to see YET AGAIN how powerful thoughts can be. Yesterday I fervently prayed to all the gods to give me RAIN since: a.) I was getting too hot and lazy to water my garden--… Continue

This Week in Portland August 16 - August 23

It's HAAWTT, sweet lord, I mean HOT!!!! Yes, I love it. Freakin' love it. I don't know about you, but this wonderful choking heat has caused me to dig out my neglected ole' swimming suit and hit the river! I spent yesterday afternoon swimmin' and splashin' like a fool at the public beach on Sauvie's Island and had a simply awesome time! It was 98million degrees and the water was, therefore, perfect. If you've never been out there-- do…

This Week in Portland, August 9 - 16, 2008

Hello, Portland! Obviously it rained last night because I awoke to a cool and wet, fresh Portland morning. It looks like a lazy day is in store, but it seems like the rain is already starting to burn off and we're supposed to have highs in the upper 60s today, with showers. Actually the temperature is perfect for outdoor events, and we all know that Portlanders never let a little rain get them down, which is a good thing, because you'll…

Irvington Artisan Market on Sat - August 9

While I was out shopping, I ran into a woman who mentioned the upcoming Irvington Artist Market--something she helped to launch for the first time this year. She handed me a flier, so I thought I'd help a fellow Portland sister get the word out by posting the event here and blogging it.

The market will feature several of our local artisans hawking their handmade wares, from jewelry to cool T-shirts and more. I know I will just have to drop in this weekend and do some shopping,… Continue

Red Bull Flugtag Portland - Videos!

Oh my God, what a crazy scene it was on the Willamette Riverfront today! I have never seen that many Portanders out in force for one event. What fun! I don't know what the main appeal of Flugtag is, exactly, but it is funny as hell to watch. People in random costumes doing short dances or skits, as they then launch their inventively designed "aircraft" into a very short flight...usually plummeting in some ungraceful fashion promptly off the runway and straight into the water. It was a seriously… Continue

This Week in Portland - August 2-9, 2008

Hello, Portland! I rode my bike to work in the cool drizzle yesterday morning, and as I write this blog, it's only 58 degrees out. So, it's another cool morning out there (reminding me of autumn), but summer isn't gone yet! Get outside and enjoy our drier weather before it's gone for the year. But--no worries--according to the weather report, it should get up to the low 70s today under partly cloudy skies, and back up to 80 tomorrow. And, it's a good thing we'll have decent weather, because…
