Portland Blog: This Week in Portland June 27 - July 4

We were over at the RED E cafe on Killingsworth last night enjoying a slew of Coava Coffee Roasters single origin double espressos, Broken Halo IPA (how many...?) a DJ and a really great Portland crowd. It was the RED E's launch party to celebrate their newly opened cafe on the very up and coming Killingsworth Street. The RED E is right next door to another recently opened and very cool business,… Continue

Portland Blog: This Week in Portland June 20-27

It's hard to believe but today is the last official day of spring! Seems as though she took forever to get here and leaves with barely a warning and now summer is slinking in ever so quietly....

June 21st begins the official Portland summer which will be, like it always has been, amazing. Everyone says Portland summers have no equal and I must agree. Our monthly Portland photo contest is "Show us in images what embodies the Portland summer to you". As they say, a picture is… Continue

Moving to Portland ASAP

I'm newly single after 25 years and since my kids are in college,I'm ready to leave California (am a native New Yorker), with my dog and start fresh in Portland. I plan to buy a small home to call my own, but want to get the neighborhood right.I'm a massage therapist, so want to work out of my home, as well as with an established spa. Sellwood sounds fun, but I'm very open. Any suggestions?

Portland Blog: TWIP June 13-20

It is officially summer next Sunday, June 21. Every summer, I feel this renewed desire to live life more purposefully and as fully as I can. The startling beauty of Portland in the summer is nearly always the impetus of these thoughts: 'Get up earlier, experience more sunsets, each on the deck more '-- do all of this with your special someone and count the minutes like they are precious cuz well, they are. Anyway, I created a list of things I want to do more of this year and thought I… Continue

Dragon Boats rain and pain

This was the third year that Rose Villa has fielded a dragon boat for the Rose Festival races. The third year that 24 people who at other times of year are considered realtively sane, subjected themselves to cold rain, dirty river water and a firebreathing coach to paddle a bath tub posing as a dragon boat around the Willamette river.

Another blogger mentioned the dragon boaters looked like vikings, well, we are the Rose Villa Vikings so we are the real thing. We even have a… Continue

Portland Blog: TWIP June 6-13

Dear Portland,

Your consistency is mind-boggling. May was awesome. Sun, BBQs, boating, high temps…Enter June: The clouds slink in and the rains begin again after a month of near arid Oregon desert. My new bamboo (props = www.bamboogarden.com) thanks you as do the lettuce, tomatoes, hops, kale and various other ‘green things’ I have adorning my outdoor life.… Continue
