So, since the last blog I posted, the events I'm working on have gotten HUGE and now we have this announcement and especially for filmmakers, I really want to get some Portland filmmakers interested.

Happy Independence Day, Portland! It looks to be another scorcher out there today, they say it will get up to 93 degrees. It got so hot yesterday, I finally caved in and put the window air conditioner back in, so at least *part* of my house can stay cool. I found all my dogs piled up on the rug in front of the air conditioner shortly after I turned it on. :-) If you're looking for the best places to stay cool in Portland, here are a few suggestions...

A very common question I get from parents is “Is this is the best martial art for my child?”. As much as I would love to say yes and get another student at my school, I never do. I almost always answer with two questions. The first is “Do they have fun doing it?”, and the second is “Do you think what we teach is valuable?”.
One of the most important things about a martial art (or any activity) is that you enjoy it. If you absolutely hated it and never had fun, why would you do it? I only train…

We were over at the RED E cafe on Killingsworth last night enjoying a slew of
Coava Coffee Roasters single origin double espressos, Broken Halo IPA (how many...?) a DJ and a really great Portland crowd. It was the RED E's launch party to celebrate their newly opened cafe on the very up and coming Killingsworth Street. The RED E is right next door to another recently opened and very cool business,…

It's hard to believe but today is the last official day of spring! Seems as though she took forever to get here and leaves with barely a warning and now summer is slinking in ever so quietly....
June 21st begins the official Portland summer which will be, like it always has been, amazing. Everyone says Portland summers have no equal and I must agree. Our monthly Portland photo contest is "Show us in images what embodies the Portland summer to
you". As they say, a picture is worth a milli…

I'm newly single after 25 years and since my kids are in college,I'm ready to leave California (am a native New Yorker), with my dog and start fresh in Portland. I plan to buy a small home to call my own, but want to get the neighborhood right.I'm a massage therapist, so want to work out of my home, as well as with an established spa. Sellwood sounds fun, but I'm very open. Any suggestions?

It is officially summer next Sunday, June 21. Every summer, I feel this renewed desire to live life more purposefully and as fully as I can. The startling beauty of Portland in the summer is nearly always the impetus of these thoughts: 'Get up earlier, experience more sunsets, each on the deck more '-- do all of this with your special someone and count the minutes like they are precious cuz well, they
are. Anyway, I created a list of things I want to do more of this year and thought I wou…

This was the third year that Rose Villa has fielded a dragon boat for the Rose Festival races. The third year that 24 people who at other times of year are considered realtively sane, subjected themselves to cold rain, dirty river water and a firebreathing coach to paddle a bath tub posing as a dragon boat around the Willamette river.
Another blogger mentioned the dragon boaters looked like vikings, well, we
are the Rose Villa Vikings so we are the real thing. We even have a cheerleading…

Dear Portland,
Your consistency is mind-boggling. May was awesome. Sun, BBQs, boating, high temps…Enter June: The clouds slink in and the rains begin again after a month of near arid Oregon desert. The truth is, I am game—I love it! I miss my rainy Oregon when its all hot and Phoenix-like. My new bamboo (props =
www.bamboogarden.com) thanks you as do the lettuce, tomatoes, hops, kale and various other ‘green things’ I have adorning my outdoor life. Free water…

Hello, welcome to the latest edition of "This Week in Portland". It promises to be another glorious weekend with warm and sunny weather for enjoying the Portland Rose Festival events, or whatever you have in your plans. This month's issue of Portland Monthly Magazine features the article, "30 Great Trails" if you are looking for a great hike within easy distance of Portland. I see they listed one of my all-time favorites, the Macleay Trail in Forest Park.
Speaking of Portland Parks, today is th…

Hi Portland,
I thought this would be a great place where I could share some of my basic housekeeping tricks with other Portlanders, and of course, learn some from you as well. When I started my cleaning business, I quickly realized that not everything you buy in the store will get the job done. Additionally, a lot of these chemicals are toxic and obviously bad for us and for the environment. So, let’s learn how to clean simple, smart, and keep Portland GREEN!!!
I'm looking forward to your post…

What does the Memorial Day holiday weekend bring to Portlander's this year? Well, sun and lots of it to be sure. A million boats on the Willamette. A million BBQ's in happy, sunny Portland back yards. An extra day off work for some of us if we're lucky and if not, free parking on Monday for y'all early birds who have to work. Oh and speaking of work-- all of us commuters rejoice a little something else this weekend: the re-opening of the bus mall and the return of normal bus service on 5th and 6…
