Which Portland neighborhood do you call home?
Hillsdale
About Me:
I'm a native Portlander, I've lived in every neighborhood in town and never can get lost here. I was away for 17 years and lived in NY, LA and DC and I'm happy to be home. I love to read and create and communicate with other people.
What do you love about Portland?
I love the creativeness here, that we try things out for ourselves without reference to the aesthetic preferences of other places. I love that mass commercial culture isn't as pervasive and accepted as it is other places, that there are many people who here reject it so utterly. I love that there are many, many, many individual people here who dance to their own drummer and make interesting and beautiful things. :) I love going out to breakfast, Portland has the best breakfasts in the country. I love that I fit in here and am nothing special, bizarre or un-ordinary here.
My music:
All kinds but right now I especially love Jon Langford:
http://www.jonlangford.de/

and the Ken de Rouchie Band
http://www.kdband.net/

and I've found Jesus. Everyone needs some Jesus -

What's your favorite Portland neighborhood and why?
All of them.

Welsh pumpin carving stencils for Halloween

I made some stencils for jack-o-lanterns that anyone who likes can download and use:

http://americymru.ning.com/profiles/blogs/free-printable-welsh-pumpkin

There's easy, medium and hard level of difficult versions and another entry has a VERY easy stencil of Castell Coch in Wales, also, for an easy castle on your pumpkin.

Celtic Arts Festival 21-22 August

The Left Coast Eisteddfod is a Welsh-American Performing Arts festival in Portland, Oregon in August 2009. An Eisteddfod is a Welsh performing arts festival and competition, held in Wales since the 12th century and today all over the world. As Saint Patrick's Day is Irish, the Highland Games are Scottish - the Eisteddfod and its competitive performance of song and story are Welsh.

This year's event will include:

Friday night rock concert, 21 August 2009, with Portland bands Jesu

Community Supported Agriculture

This year, my mother and I went in together on buying a share in a Community Supported Agriculture farm.

You buy a portion of the harvest and either go pick up your fruits and veggies or they're delivered to you or somewhere on a (usually) weekly schedule. You ensure your family good, wholesome produce, help a local farm be successful and contribute to the local economy. By choosing organic, you help protect our soil and the future of our food supply.

How Toxic is the air in your neighborhood?

I found this very interesting resource from USA Today online, a search that lets you look up schools and find out what they rank on the toxicity of their air, what's in it and where it comes from - I have children at Mary Reike Elementary in SW and my oldest still at Laurelhurst in NE and, frankly, ew!

To check your neighborhood, plug in the name of the closest school to you:

Portland Highland Games

We spent all day, Saturday, a the Highland Games at Mount Hood Community College. There weren't so many people there in the morning but by early afternoon, it was packed. There were, of course, lots of fantastically gorgeous men in kilts, not too bad beer at the beer tent, great music and good meat pies although bland bangers and outrageously overpriced. One of the best things about this event is the people watching: all kinds of kilts from classic clan tartans to leather, druid-y people pacing… Continue

Hello, gaabi, and welcome to the site! I love the creativeness of Portland, too. I just got back from being out of town, and nearly kissed the ground of Portland, I was so happy to be home.
