Profile Information

Which Portland neighborhood do you call home?
SW Portland / Tigard / Beaverton
About Me:
WHO IS R.J. ARCHER?
I'm an author, computer consultant and freelance writer who has called the Pacific Northwest home for more than 30 years. I've published numerous articles on PC-related topics in both print and electronic magazines. My interest in underwater archaeology led me to begin a blog about mysterious ancient maritime cultures in the Caribbean at www. TheMegaBlog.com. And my interest in diving led me to start a web portal for divers called BajaDivers.com. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree with dual majors in Physics and Mathematics and I'm a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Interests include computing, alternative history and scuba diving. When not writing, I can usually be found traveling Mexico and the Caribbean with my wife, Marty.
What do you love about Portland?
It's filled with creative talent of all types. Winters are USUALLY not too cold. It keeps a small city feel but has everything to offer. It's close to both the mountain and the beach, and just a three-hour drive from Seattle, from Bend and from Eugene.
My music:
Love jazz, blues and all types of Latin music, including some alternative rock.
What's your favorite Portland neighborhood and why?
close-in downtown, maybe MacAdam Av and John's Landing or the Waterfront

I am now a certified open water diver! I did about 10 dives-- which were all amazing! Saw lots of awesome things but the most amazing was a 15 foot nurse shark who was very pregnant. She was resting on the sea floor taking a nap and was not at all interested in the 4 divers who were very interested in her! The deepest dive I did was 60 feet-- saw a few sunken airplanes and toured in and around them. We were in Negril, Jamaica. Wish I had an underwater camera but did not. ;-( I really want to get an enclosure for my D40 Nikon.
