Watch The Skies!

We had yet another fireball fly-by on Wednesday. I heard a report of it on KINK as I drove to my work gig that morning, and since then I've read and heard via the news that sightings have been rife the world over lately. The answer we're getting from Those Who Should Know (or is it Those Told To Tell Us?) is that the Earth has swung into the path of comet debris. That's the easy answer.…See More

Spooky Spots

Bella approaches every party with the zeal of Patton crossing the Rhine, and never more so than when it's a Halloween party.See all that? That is why we can only seat three people comfortably at the dining room table without someone dislocating a hip. As I write this, said party is still two days away, but it's been a physical…See More

AmsterDAMMIT!

I'm reading this excellent book about Amsterdam. The title of it is In the City of Bikes: The Story of the Amsterdam Cyclist, and it explores the impact the bicycle has had on the culture and economy of the Dutch capitol throughout its history and into modern times (the chapters that detail the absurdities and terrors experienced by the populace while under the heel of the German occupation during the Second World War…See More

Tapping the Typery Thing

How to bust the blank page thingy. You just do this. Type. Typey-type-type. Sooner or later something will bubble to the surface that is worthy of eyes other than mine.I realize that this has not yet occurred here. Thanks.I blame the government shutdown. Family of Six (Thanks, Oregon Humane Society!)

What? I've never shown you pictures of our family? That can't be right. Sure, I don't carry the wallet-size photos with me everywhere I go, but thanks to the World Wide Wimbledon I would think surely I'd have lobbed a pic or two of the clan your way at least once. Really, if this is true that I haven't shared with you the apples of mine eyes, this shall be rectified at once!…See More

Comic Relief

I love comix. And now a long aside about that spelling, after which I'll start all over. C'mon, you're used to this by now.I use the spelling “comix” when I refer to the illustrated story medium, as opposed to the terms “comics” and “comic books”. “Comics” are sweaty people standing in front of a roomful of mostly strangers and trying desperately to make them laugh. “Comic books” is a phrase often used to describe comix, but lend the idea that said books are funny. Not all comix are funny,…See More

A Case of the Monthlies

A friend of ours, who has highfalutin tastes, recently visited and left a magazine on our cocktail table (that is, our coffee table, as we are not ourselves highfalutin folk and therefore do not imbibe cocktails unless we're elsewhere other than home and others are providing them). This is, as far as the species goes, a handsome magazine full of elegant and enthusiastic prose accompanied by excellent photography; fashion, home décor, dining, helpful and tasteful gardening tips, all is there for…See More

Save This

Call me impaired in any fashion you like, but I'm looking forward to November 3rd.What happens on November 3rd? Why, at 2am in the dark dark morning, the silly Daylight Saving Time endeth, and yeth, I'm quite happy about it.What, you aren't? That's weird. You're weird.Me, I think it's a pity it lasts so damned long, pardon mah Frainch, because one word: Hallowe'en. No, it's spelled exactly right, the…See More

Profile Information

Which Portland neighborhood do you call home? Or, are you Moving to Portland?
Southeast/Milwaukie
About Me:
I love Life. If you don't, please keep it to yourself, thanks. People who insist upon defining themselves by what they despise are boring and obnoxious.

I love animals and prefer them to most people. This sounds like a cliche but it's absolutely true. How many times have I scratched you behind YOUR ears?

I exercise regularly. Grudgingly, but regularly.

I quit smoking July 2nd of 2006. Hooray for me. I think I'd still like to smoke, but I'm sure I'm wrong.

My consumption of whiskey improves the companionship of those around me.

What do you love about Portland?
Dang near everything. Portland is like no other.
My music:
Lots. Lots and lots. Jazz, classical, rock, ambient, even some hip-hop and rap. Play me something, I'll tell you.
What's your favorite Portland neighborhood and why?
Southeast Portland. Used to live at SE 19th and Belmont and loved it, but every neighborhood is interesting and unique.
Favorite quote:
"Ignorance begets confidence more frequently than does knowledge." -Charles Darwin
