- We started Pistils to create a unique gathering place for people who are as passionate about plants and urban homesteading as we are … a place for discovery, conversation, and above all, sharing. In addition to the rich experience we strive to offer at Pistils, you’ll find an immense diversity of plant species and an extensive variety of supplies for the city farmer.
- What do you love about Portland?
- We love the community-centric mindset that pervades Portland's mental environment. From food to business, supporting local products is a top priority to so many Portland residents.
We are devoted to supporting our local wholesalers and making our community stronger through progressive cooperation. Nearly all of our plants are sourced from small growers right here in the beautiful Willamette Valley. And twenty-five percent (and growing) of all stock is sustainably cultivated (see: no chemicals or nasty synthetic fertilizers) at our own propagation site, less than a mile away from our retail space. And most importantly of all, our friendly and knowledgeable staff is ready to help with advice and insight on making your garden or urban homestead prosper.

- What's your favorite Portland neighborhood and why?
- Favorite? Impossible. However, We are thrilled that over the years our retail nursery on North Mississipi Avenue has become a fertile environment for sharing ideas and exchanging information. We love our neighbors a whole bunch!
