Cycling gear

Hello all-I just bought a Trek PDX and plan to start commuting to and from work (2.5 miles each way) and around town. I have a question for the experienced commuters here - what sort of cycling gear do you recommend? I am looking for a backpack to carry my work clothes and books and would preferably like a waterproof one as I plan on riding year round. Any good suggestions? The only brand I have found so far that I have liked is Timbuk2. Also looking for clothing suggestions. Thanks!See More

I am very excited, and was hoping to get some advice from the locals on this site. I have a couple of questions:1. I am moving from Chicago, where my daily commute is routinely 45 minutes to/from work…See More

About Me:
I am moving to Portland in June 2010 from Chicago to start a new job.
What do you love about Portland?
Coming from Chicago, where to bike is to put your life in the hands of fate, I appreciate that Portland is a very bike friendly city. I love how eco-friendly this city is, and the proximity to mountains, the Pacific, state parks and forests.
What's your favorite Portland neighborhood and why?
I don't know yet. I joined this community website hoping to get more information from local people.
