Urban Paradise The Boise neighborhood, sometimes referred to as "Boise Eliot" and most commonly referred to as the Historic Mississippi District or just simply "Mississippi Ave", is located on the East side of the Willamette River. It is bordered by the Overlook, Humboldt, King and Eliot neighborhoods in the increasingly hip and popular North Portland. Boise is in a great location for commuting to downtown Portland, as well as getting to many other great Portland neighborhoods. Major freeway ramps located nearby include I-5 and I-84. Drive over the Fremont, Steel or Broadway bridges to get downtown or to the Pearl District, and Old Town/Chinatown in mere minutes. The "MAX" light rail is only minutes away on foot.
Boise can be located on page 596 of
The Thomas Guide - Portland Oregon Street Guide.

The Phoenix Prepare yourself for a mixed brew of
all things old and nouveau. Boise is truly the phoenix rising from
the ashes. An unknown to most just a handful of years ago, the
streets are now alive with local shops and foot traffic. Modest
homes, kids on bikes and dog walkers abound in this nearly 100%
self-sustaining neighborhood. You’ll feel right at home as
you get to know the many independently owned coffee houses, pubs,
music venues, nurseries and zesty local restaurants each boasting
an individual flair.
An incredible amount of change is coming to Mississippi Avenue right now as seemingly half of it is under major construction. Condos, condos, condos. Lofts, lofts, lofts. Check back for updates and pictures. |

Boise is an urban neighborhood with cultural diversity.
Home styles in this area consist of older Victorian cottages, Craftsman, and other older East
Portland styles that have historic charm and character you just
can't find in the outlying suburbs. Home prices in this area
have skyrocketed in the last several years due to the Mississippi
Avenue Boom. This neighborhood is highly coveted and rather
spendy for those looking to buy.

Por Que No! Hey, why not?! We love the simplicity of this tiny taqueria. Absolutely excellent food (the best, freshest, guacamole around!) and some damn tasty sangria. Carnitas...hmmmm....Oh, don't forget to try the ever so simple yet amazing "side salad". We were blown away!
Equinox is a fantastic breakfast and dinner spot. They offer fresh, seasonal local ingredients, organic meats, and a creative menu. I adore their Winter Salad Rolls and Shrimp Bisque!
Lorenzo's Italian restaurant offers simple, open air dining. We love it when the garage doors are up and the curtains are blowing in the breeze. Lorenzo is friendly and warm to his patrons, and his pasta and wine selection cannot be beat.
Lovely Hula Hands is our idea of a perfect night out in the neighborhood. The food, the drinks, the service...divine! An ever changing usually all-organic menu never disappoints. Recently relocated to "Mississippi Ave proper", having renovated a defunct nursery into a stunning and elegant (yet comfortable) dining atmosphere.
Mississippi Station boasts friendly service, excellent drinks and creative, very tasty dishes. Make sure to stop by and experience the one-of-a-kind decor and backdoor patio-- the food is scrumptious and the ambience is too!
Miss Delta In a word: awesome! Located in the former 'Pasta Bangs' spot, the latest addition to Mississippi Ave is a breath of fresh air. Huge portions, fair prices and man, we can honestly tell you that we've never had such fantastic southern fare-- not even in New Orleans!
Gravy The lines on the street on Saturday and Sunday mornings scream "breakfast spot!!!". These folks do it well and they do it "supersize style". Known for humungous portions and affordable prices-- a locals joint with very friendly service and gooood food.
Muddy's Coffeehouse Perhaps our single most favorite coffeehouse and breakfast haunt on the Mississippi strip. A lovely Victorian home full of super friendly staff and fabulous down-home food.

It's not possible to walk by and miss The Crow Bar. The Crow is a local’s favorite for a wide range of cold brew on tap, mixed drinks, vino and a highly coveted pool table. Locals pile in all nights of the week reminding us of either Cheers or Barfly…Do a drive-by and you decide. No matter your call, you can’t deny it’s pretty nice to walk in and have twenty people say hello or give you the nod (“Hey, Norm”)…Not a local? Doesn’t matter. This is one of the friendliest bars in town.
Drop by the Moloko Plus (sometimes called XOSA or 'The White Bar' due to a nearly all-white interior) for some sassy drinks and a laid back, upscale evening. They often have live music and sport a quaint little patio out back. Moloko is non-smoking inside (use the patio for that) and stock full of some great hard-to-find beers.
Amnesia Brewing A summertime staple located in a converted warehouse complete with garage doors which are always open, weather permitting. Super dog friendly, excellent service, and hoppin' busy May-October due to the 'beer gardenesque patio'. Fantastic local beer and a nice, cheap and simple "grill menu".
For some fantastic musical entertainment, you just have to check out Mississippi Studios! What a wonderful place...a combination of cozy music entertainment bar, with a professional recording studio upstairs. Out back they have an amazing deck and private garden, great for watching silent movies after the show. Come listen to the musicians and discover some special talent, right in your own neighborhood!
The Fresh Pot Another Stumptown slingin' coffee shop and doin' it rather well, if we do say so ourselves. Stop by and rub elbows with some of the hippest hipstah's in the area. Cash only, a converted old-school pharmacy-- this place serves up a mighty fine latte and has an ever busy 'outdoor seating' scene.
