Hi, Angela. I wanted to certify in warm water so I did it in the Cayman Islands. But in the States? . . . I recommend you choose a scuba shop that has it's own pool so you can get lots of water practive BEFORE you certify. One such place is Aquatic Sports, 10803 SW Barbur Blvd, Portland, OR 97219 503.245.4991 (where I trained). Their certification trip took place in Puget Sound but I didn't go along since I made my own plans to the Caribbean. It's excellent training at this shop, though, and I highly recommend them.

We just booked a trip to Negril, Jamaica. I am going to scuba this time myself! Any recommendations for practicing/certifying here in the states?

Baja Diving
Two days 'til I leave for Los Cabos and some great Baja Sur diving. I'll come back with photos and a full report. While in the Los Cabos area I'll visit San Lucas, La Paz, Los Barriles, Todos Santos and San Jose – then spend a few days on mainland Mexico in Barra de Navidad and Puerto Vallarta.
Hopefully I'll also have lots of time to udate my sites BajaDivers.com and MySpace.com/BajaDivers so tune in. Happy Holidays, everyone.

Hey there-- just so you know, I have never actually scuba'd as I was always too petrified in the last (I saw Jaws once too many times as a kid and it truly ruined me). But I am happy to report that I finally got over my shark fear and did some hardcore snorkeling in Oahu over the last weekend-- did Sharks Cove and several beaches and though this will sound stupid, I went way out in the deep-- now I am READY TO GO! Sooooo, we are going to Jamaica again sometime in the spring and I am gonna scuba!!

By the way, we got some great snork gear at Oregon Underwater-- the lady there was awesome! Incredibly helpful!
