Welcome to YOUR Portland Neighborhood Community

BIKEmpowered’s programs are non-competitive, jargon-free, creative and fun. Ideal for novices to intermediates, programs develop inner and outer skills for lifelong lifestyle cycling.

Here is a snap shot of BIKEmpowered programs:
BikeLabs – ½ hour of overview of BIKEmpowered then your Qs bout any bike topic, then ½ hour of learning a repair or handling skill –audience directed. Hand outs included.
Neighborhood Rides - adventure-filled rides in your neighborhood for fun, to practice cycling skills, to give volunteer time, learn about and support local businesses and organizations.
Bike-Carnivals - action- and skill-packed bicycle theme parties for home to street fair settings. Safety, motivation, handling and repair skills taught through games, teamwork and fun-focused coaching.
Youth Programs - age-adjusted LifeCycling and Repair classes for 8-16 aged cyclists.
LifeCycling - ensures cycling becomes and stays part of your lifestyle. Key elements are: goal setting. bike comfort, “CyclingMindset/motivation”, trip planning, Crash-free Rodeo.
Bicycle Repair - for novices (including so called “un-mechanically inclined”) to intermediates who want to be empowered to do their own tune ups.

My background: after several years as a master mechanic, I founded the Community Cycling Center in 1994; winning national and regional awards for my programs. I have coached thousands of women, men and children in over 27 years of activism with bicycles.

Paul Laak here. I helped get a showing of Tread, the mountain bike movie, through the PSU Outdoor Program, with proceeds going to CCC and PUMP. I also volunteered for the Christmas clean-up in 1995. Do you need any help?
