My backyard in North Portland is truly my own little retreat. I have birds of all sorts including hummingbirds (thanks to careful planting of those things that the hummingbird so loves-- especially the fuchsia and the trumpet flowers!) Squirrels abound here, too and neither the tom cat nor the two sleepy Basset Hounds mind a bit. The pond is new to me and brings a great deal of calm to the yard-- the burbling water is very relaxing to me as is watching the 20 some odd gold fish who have managed to survive now a full year and have gotten so much larger though they are still so small. ;-) The house has dog doors to the back yard so we all enjoy it when we see fit.

Black bamboo of various ages -- mature and new shoots. The older bamboo turns a wonderful black color.
This bamboo was transplanted from my neighbors yard many years ago. It was over 25ft then and unbelievably heavy. I am still shocked we were able to move it
