Welcome to YOUR Portland Neighborhood Community

Hello Portlanders!

My husband was recently accepted to Portland State University to complete his Master of Fine Arts. We've accepted, and are moving to Portland this July. Our 2 young children (1 & 3 years old), and our chocolate lab, Juneau, are coming along with us. My husband is an artist (film and sculpture), I'm a stay at home mom and an aspiring musician - Soul Keys & Vocals. All that aside, I am having positively 0% luck finding a suitable apartment anywhere online. Craigslist is full of scammers and most of the legitimate rentals are in huge complexes far from downtown, or high rises downtown that are so far beyond our budget it's laughable. We highly value living in a neighborhood close to PSU, rich in community and arts, and preferably with opportunities for my children and I to walk and experience Portland. Although we're unable to afford much (about $800/month is tops for us), we're willing to sacrifice space and squish into something little if it means living in an area like Goose Hollow or another of these lovely-looking communities close to city life.

My husband is visiting Portland this weekend to familiarize himself with the school and the neighborhoods and hopefully to find some apartment information!

If anyone has any leads for me or can help in any way, I would really appreciate it. I can't wait to move to your beautiful, rainy city and start meeting people!

All the Best,

Natalie Rose

The Multnomah Village and Hillsdale neighborhoods are a short bus ride coming directly into the south end of PSU. We live close to both and really like the neighborhoods. I don't know about apartment rents, though.

Thank you so much for the suggestion. My hubby is there this wkdn perusing the area and getting to know the campus, so hopefully he'll get a bit of a feel for a good spot for us!

Goose Hollow is a great little neighborhood that adjoins downtown PDX.  I love it over there. I'd be looking there first!

I've been looking for Goose Hollow rentals every day, I love that area from what I've seen/heard! Thanks!

Cary, thank you so much! I really appreciate you being willing to take the time to send me the property manager list, I'd love if you did! We won't be moving until July, so we have a couple of months to nail something down. I wanted to start early so I could really familiarize myself with what's out there. We don't mind a short commute to school, as long as it's relatively central so my kids and I can walk to 'neat stuff'. :-)
