Hi Mike-
I am an Accountant currently looking for work. There seem to be a lot of jobs out there, however there also seem to be a lot of people looking. I suggest starting to look early. Also, the major job sites are good, but I have found success looking on individual company websites as well.

I don't know about accounting but I've noticed that marketing and advertising, especially entry level with no or not much experience are sales jobs, mostly phone sales and hundreds of people are trying to get them. The statistics are 12% unemployment but the estimate of how many people are unemployed or underemployed (part time) is about 25%. My ex is in marketing and PR, has been unemployed a year with ten year's experience and mailing out hundreds of resumes, he's given up on job hunting and is trying to build a freelance publicist practice and fighting with lots of other fish for that. My current and I are both geeks, he's a Sys Admin out of work for two years and I'm multimedia, job hunting for two years, and we've given up and are trying freelance and doing something else. I know people who are discouraged trying to find restaurant and retail work. The job market here is really bad, the rents are ridiculously sky high and I would discourage anyone coming here unless they're bringing their market with them, like your wife.
