Welcome to YOUR Portland Neighborhood Community

My boyfriend and I just moved to PDX last month, not knowing a soul here. We live in Nob Hill and love it so far, but are trying to figure out ways to meet some people around our age. We're 25 and from the east coast, love the outdoors, sports, Portland beers, all the good stuff-- any suggestions?

Man, moving to a new city is hard, indeed. I can totally relate to your situation. What worked for me was finding local places to call "my own" such as pubs and coffee houses and spending time there --eventually you meet others there and voila! Another idea is taking classes -- you'll run into other like-minded souls no doubt.

Making (real) friends online does totally happen -- this site is proof of that! I've met several super cool people on this very site - even my wedding photographer (who is also now a friend).

I guess the best advice of all is to get out and meet people. Portlanders are really nice, too- so I think it will be pretty easy...

Welcome, by the way!
Powells bookstore is a good place to hang out and meet people, as are several other places downtown. If you want to make new friends quickly, I would also suggest you look at Portland Yahoo Meetup groups too. Search for things you are interested in, join the group, and watch for fun events to meet people with common interests. There are groups for every interest from meeting to play card games, drink beer, go hiking, and more. Meetup groups were designed for people looking to make new friends, so within days you should have plenty of things on your calendar to go do, and hopefully can meet some new friends in Portland.
Use Meetup.com to find groups of interest in the Portland area...
Wow that site is awesome... thanks everyone!

I had the best cheesesteak sangwich the other day.If you haven't had one of these gustatory marvels, I suggest you consult your physician and then ignore his or her cautions and go get one. Your mouth will thank you, or would if it weren't so busy. My recommendation: Steaks Fifth Avenue at Pioneer Courthouse Square. Easily located, just follow the sound of collective “omnomnomz” forming a nimbus around the cart. While you're gnawing on the first of two (or is that just me?), take a look around.…See More
