Welcome to YOUR Portland Neighborhood Community

Hello Portland, my beloved Portland....

You...#1 biking city in the nation, you...#1 free-thinking, go-local, go-real city in the nation.... Tell me...how do you commute?

How are you dealing with these off-the-charts gas prices? Driving less? Taking on some deep, deep Big Lebowski-like nihilism and just driving anyway?

Not me. And I beg you to join me. Whaddya say?

In the past two weeks, I have driven my car a grand total of three times. Today I rode my bike home from work in the rain--I know, nothing special, biking in the rain in Portland, but it was a first for me. It actually felt good, those cool droplets on my face. AND I saved $10.50 on not paying for a parking space at work in Downtown Portland. AND I saved by not paying for gasoline (my tank, at last check, the empty light was on...so I just parked it and my goal is to not drive it again as long as possible because I don't want to spend $40-50 bucks on a tank of gas--it's SO depressing!). AND, I was all proud of myself for doing my body and the environment a little tiny bit of good. Hey, it's no great accomplishment, I know. But it felt pretty good anyway.

Hey! Nice job riding in. I keep thinking I should try it from out here in Tigard. A long trek, but perhaps a Friday?

Trimet is a savior when it comes to these high gas prices. I have really been noticing a huge difference in the number of riders lately. Lots of folks are converging on local transit since the prices have increased ever so closer to $4.

Hi Samantha, A great close in spot for large yards is Garden Home. It is really close to Multnomah Village, not far from downtown and has jr. acre parcels with decent homes for about $500K. A great school program near there is http://www.odysseyprog
