Welcome to YOUR Portland Neighborhood Community

Hey,

I realize you probably get a lot of this junk from prospective residents, but any input would be greatly appreciated. I am moving to Portland this Summer, and of course I am going to need some sort of job to get me on my feet. What are some good resources to use for looking for jobs in portland?

Do you have any particular field you are looking for work in? Most of the large job sites are a good place to start, craigslist has some links, and of course the local news papers. Here are some links:

Good luck in your move and job hunt.
Not at the moment, no.
I just need a job to keep me on my feet.
HI, been living here for almost a Month and have started to realize the difficulty of landing a job in this city!

Other than that, I love Portland so far! Love the places to eat, Love the people, everyone is so nice!
If anyone has any connections, I would greatly appreciate any help in landing something.
Hiya! Ive been living in Oregon for a little over 3 months and I have yet to even get an interview. It's frustrating and I'd almost like to start my own business so I can hire people myself!! haha However, I need money to start a business and I need a job to make money so it's a frustrating cycle.

Is there are particular area you're looking to get into now? I'd like to get a job in apparel making, embroidery, sewing, or something arty, but it's hard to find a place to start looking. So far I've sent out about 12 resumes to various people on Craigslist and Snag-a-job, but no responses except for one which I'm still waiting on more information.

Well, good luck, keep looking and hopefully you'll find something!
I am curious as to whether either of u found work. how long did it take and how are things going since the move. I will be there in a few months and reading things like this make me nervous.
I actually did get a job and not too long after I had posted on here. It was a temporary, seasonal job as a school photographer. The season is almost over so I'm on the hunt again. (I'm actually working on a new resume right now as a matter of fact). I found the photography job on Craigslist and my primary advice as far as Craigslist goes is, if you're sure the post is not a scam contact them ASAP! When I went in for my interview, they told me they got over 200 emails the first day and they only had time to look at the first 50. So, if the post is over a day old, it may not even be worth trying to contact them.

The thing I struggle with most is coming up with a new resume and cover letter for each new person/company I contact, especially when I have to be quick about it.

I looked into a few retail stores since the holiday season is upon us and they're looking for extra help this time of year, but it seems like they want us to apply online and yet their sites are so poorly designed I can't find anything. Plus their email responses are most unhelpful....I may go in person, but then why the signs that say to apply online?

Anyway, it's not impossible to get a job here, you just really have to sell yourself and look at your resume as if you are them. Good luck! :-)
Hey,

I recently landed a job in August. So it is doable!
I work at FedEx and I just got a call for an interview with Chipotle today.
Follow your dreams and good luck!

I had the best cheesesteak sangwich the other day.If you haven't had one of these gustatory marvels, I suggest you consult your physician and then ignore his or her cautions and go get one. Your mouth will thank you, or would if it weren't so busy. My recommendation: Steaks Fifth Avenue at Pioneer Courthouse Square. Easily located, just follow the sound of collective “omnomnomz” forming a nimbus around the cart. While you're gnawing on the first of two (or is that just me?), take a look around.…See More
