Metro Councilor Carlotta Collette, President of Friends of French Prairie, Ben Williams and Wilsonville City Councilor Charlotte Lehan will be our featured speakers discussing the proposed industrial development of French Prairie at our last program of the 2015-16 season.
Oregon Values and Beliefs Project surveyed Oregonians throughout the state and found that 66% of Oregonians believe it is somewhat important or very important to preserve valuable farm and timber land from development. Some of the most valuable farmland in the country is in the Willamette Valley and, in particular, the area south of the Willamette River bridge in Wilsonville has been designated as Foundation Agricultural Land.
For many years, the owners of the Langdon Farms Golf Course in French Prairie have been seeking to have their property re-classified for development. They were rebuffed by Metro but they continued to fight through the Court of Appeals and the Legislature and they will not give up. They have deep pockets and will be back again to fund campaigns of candidates that support their goals to develop this valuable farmland.
