Event Description

Bread and Roses: Women on the Frontlines of Labor

Commemorate the 100th anniversary of the “Bread and Roses” strike with Triangle – Remembering the Fire, a film that depicts one of the galvanizing events that sparked the uprising. The tragic 1911 shirtwaist factory fire killed 146 garment workers, mostly young immigrant women, who weeks before had filled the streets in a work stoppage for union recognition, safer conditions and better pay.

Sponsored by Radical Women. At the Bread & Roses Center, 6834 NE Glisan St., Portland (on bus line #19). Social 6:30pm, Film 7:00pm followed by discussion. Door donation $3.00-$5.00. Snacks served at 6:30pm for donation. For more information: 503-240-4462 or rwpdx@igc.org.
