Through Running the Numbers: An American Self-Portrait, a large-format series of digital collages comprised of repeatedly patterned photographic images, Seattle-based artist Chris Jordan visualizes statistics that are easy to overlook. Using light bulbs to represent the number of kilowatt hours of electricity wasted in the United States every minute, or Vicodin pills to show how many emergency room visits are caused yearly by the misuse of pain killers, Jordan brings otherwise incomprehensible numbers into focus and implores viewers to question their role in how these numbers add up.
APEX: Chris Jordan is curated by Ingrid Berger, curatorial assistant.

APEX is a dynamic exhibitions series developed to further the Museum’s 115–year commitment to collecting, exhibiting, and celebrating Northwest art. The series presents contemporary art by emerging and established artists living and working in the Northwest. Three exhibitions are presented each year in an intimate, experimental setting on the Museum’s sky-lit top floor. Exhibitions range in intentions and mediums from painting, drawing, sculpture, and photography, to video, installation, and sound. Previous APEX artists include Roy McMakin, Chris Johanson, Wes Mills, and Ann Gale. The APEX series is supported in part by the Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Endowments for Northwest Art.
